Site policy

« A training center for research and innovation »

The fifth major element of ISAE’s scientific policy is its involvement in the site policy of the Midi-Pyrenees region. This finds expression in a number of initiatives.

This determination finds its ultimate expression in ISAE’s participation in setting up and developing PRES “Université de Toulouse” . The founder members of PRES are the six higher educational and research institutions of the region that have been entitled to award doctorates since when they were created:

  • Université Toulouse 1 (Social Sciences)
  • Université Toulouse 2 (Mirail)
  • Université Toulouse 3 (Paul Sabatier)
  • Institut National Polytechnique (INP) of Toulouse
  • Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) of Toulouse
  • École Nationale Supérieure de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace (SUPAERO), prefiguring ISAE.

PRES has a vocation to accommodate all the higher educational institutions in the region. Within PRES, the ISAE in particular seeks to contribute to coordinating doctoral studies and harmonising associated practises (via the site’s doctoral college), awarding doctorates under the single label of the Université de Toulouse, adopting a scientific signature capable of developing PRES research, contributing to a management policy to pool equipment and research facilities, and improving how visiting students and professors are received, especially when coming from abroad.

Within the PRES framework, the ISAE promotes development of the Ecole Doctorale Aéronautique et Astronautique for which it ensures the role of support establishment. Within a range of graduate schools articulated in relation to a logic of scientific subjects, ED AA has a role of accommodating multi-disciplinary theses relating to subjects in the aeronautical and space field.

This site policy also results in a strong involvement, through PRES, to further research activities of RTRA in “Sciences and Engineering of Aeronautics and Space”. The ISAE is consistent in its policy of maintaining links with the economic world, ensuring an active presence within the Competitiveness Cluster of Aerospace Valley.
